![]() ![]() Students generally complete their four levels during four consecutive summers. Kodály courses run for three weeks each July. The American Kodály Institute (AKI) at Loyola is one of a handful of institutions worldwide that goes beyond Kodály certification and offers a Master of Education in Kodály Music Education. AKI faculty are master teachers with current classroom experience teaching musicians from birth through adulthood, inspiring our students to become artists, pedagogues, and scholars of the highest caliber. This program applies the latest music education research with the goal of music literacy for all. Graduate students that teach at the middle and high school can specialize their studies in the secondary choral studies courses. In addition to completing their Kodály certification coursework, students study the intricacies of vocal pedagogy and science, develop methods for teaching children with special needs, and practice folk instrument accompaniment. The Kodály philosophy is singing-based, and enables students to develop the musical skills to understand what they hear and apply that understanding to reading, writing, improvisation, composition, and overall musical artistry. in Kodály Music Education provides music educators with comprehensive musicianship and pedagogical training that produces musicians and pedagogues of the highest caliber.
